Toronto police eye deadly van attack suspect's 'cryptic message'

Image
By Anna Mehler Paperny and Nichola Saminather TORONTO (Reuters) - The man accused of plowing a rental van into pedestrians on a crowded Toronto sidewalk, killing 10 people in Canada's deadliest mass killing in decades, left a "cryptic message" on social media before his attack, police said on Tuesday. Suspect Alek Minassian, 25, was charged with 10 counts of murder and 13 counts of attempted murder in the incident. One possible clue to his motive emerged on Tuesday as Facebook confirmed Minassian wrote a post before the incident that referenced an "incel rebellion." The term is shorthand used in some online message boards for "involuntary celibacy", a loose social media movement of men who blame women for their celibacy. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://ift.tt/2vF8aH4 via Latest News

President Rodrigo Duterte had branded the renowned white-sand resort a "cesspool" fouled by dumped sewage and imposed the temporary ban on visitors that is due to take effect Thursday. In Boracay, police conducted exercises simulating clashes with protesters, terrorist attacks and a hostage incident even as they said there was no specific threat. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://ift.tt/2HqfibN via Latest News

America Must Come to Terms with Reality in Syria

Image
The joint attack carried out by the United States, United Kingdom and France on April 14 in Syria—targeting three sites related to Assad’s chemical weapons program—was a firm reaction and punishment for Assad’s continued use of chemical weapons against Syrian civilians. What singled out this chemical weapons attack from others Assad carried out over the past year was that it was not limited to the use of chlorine. The large number of civilian casualties and the fact that sarin nerve agent was mixed with the chlorine sparked the second military response by the Trump administration—this time together with the United Kingdom and France—with the aim of upholding the well-established international norm against the use of chemical weapons. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://ift.tt/2Jk4IDR via Latest News

Donald Trump's lawyer Michael Cohen says he will take Fifth Amendment in Stormy Daniels case

Image
President Donald Trump's lawyer Michael Cohen said on Wednesday he would assert his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination in connection with a lawsuit filed by adult-film star Stormy Daniels, who says she had an affair with Trump. In a filing in Los Angeles federal court, Cohen said he decided to invoke his constitutional right after the FBI raided his home, office and hotel room two weeks ago. The FBI search was partly a referral by the Office of Special Counsel, Robert Mueller, who is investigating alleged Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and possible collusion with the Trump campaign. Russia denies meddling in the election and Trump has denied any collusion. Last month, Daniels sued Trump and Cohen to end a non-disclosure agreement related to a $130,000 payment she received from Cohen before the 2016 election to keep quiet about her alleged one-night stand with Trump a decade earlier. Cohen has asked for the Daniels' case to be put on hold fo

Image
A new Samsung smartphone has been spotted in a benchmark listing. Listed on Geekbench as SM-J260G, it's an entry-level smartphone that could be well be the South Korean company's first Android Go attempt. Android Go is an iteration of Oreo aimed at smartphones with modest hardware, while Samsung doesn't typically release its entry-level devices with the latest available Androive version. Oh, and the motherboard is listed as "universal7570_go." So enough indications that SM-J260G is an... from GSMArena.com - Latest articles https://ift.tt/2Hs0OfF via IFTTT
