Alexei Navalny "free to return" to Russia after being discharged from German hospital

Image
Opposition leader Alexei Navalny is "free to return" to Russia after he was discharged from a German hospital following weeks in a coma, the Kremlin said on Wednesday. After being taken to intensive care for a nerve agent poisoning in August, Mr Navalny has now recovered enough to be released from inpatient care, the Charite hospital in Berlin said in a statement on Wednesday. German doctors also mentioned for the first time that they now believe that “complete recovery is possible” for the Russian opposition leader while adding that it was too early to talk about potential long-term damage to his health from the poisoning. Asked about the opposition leader's potential return, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Russian news agencies on Wednesday that there were no obstacles for Mr Navalny to go back to Russia. "In terms of his return to Moscow, he is free to do it at any moment like any other Russian citizen," Mr Peskov said. Mr Navalny earlier on Wednesday po

France's Macron says U.S. maximum pressure on Iran not working

Image
The United States' maximum pressure campaign on Iran has so far failed, France's president said on Tuesday, and he dismissed U.S. efforts to restore U.N. sanctions against Tehran because Washington had left the 2015 nuclear deal. "The maximum pressure strategy, which has been under way for several years, has not at this stage made it possible to end Iran's destabilising activities or to ensure that it will not be able to acquire nuclear weapons," Emmanuel Macron said in a speech to the United Nations General Assembly. "This is why France, along with its German and British partners, will maintain its demand for the full implementation of the 2015 Vienna Agreement and will not accept the violations committed by Iran." from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://ift.tt/33Tqt9g via Latest News

Florida's attorney general asked state and federal law enforcement on Wednesday to investigate possible election law violations after billionaire and former Democratic presidential candidate Mike Bloomberg helped raise more than $16 million for Florida felons to pay their debts so they can vote in the presidential election. Attorney General Ashley Moody sent letters to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the FBI saying that further investigation is warranted. Gov. Ron DeSantis had asked Moody to review allegations that Bloomberg and the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition had violated the law by offering incentives for voting. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://ift.tt/3cpBQtD via Latest News
