Image
* Jorge Rodrigo Tovar’s appointment ‘offensive’ – survivors * Father ‘Jorge 40’ terrorised civilians along Caribbean coastThe son of a notorious death squad leader has been appointed to run the Colombian government’s programmes for victims of the country’s long civil war, prompting fury among survivors.Jorge Rodrigo Tovar was this week put in charge of a scheme for compensating victims of the conflict – many of whom were terrorised by his father, Rodrigo Tovar, better known in Colombia as “Jorge 40”.During the late 90s and early 2000s, the elder Tovar led the Northern Bloc of the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (or AUC) – which was responsible for a string of massacres and the murder of hundreds of civilians along Colombia’s Caribbean coast. In February 2000, militiamen under his command tortured and dismembered over 60 peasant farmers in the isolated village of El Salado, in one of the worst single acts of violence in the five-decade war. Joe Biden tells Charlamagne tha God 'you ain't black' if you vote for Trump over him

Image
Former Vice President Joe Biden raised some eyebrows Friday during a heated interview with Charlamagne Tha God on The Breakfast Club. Charlamagne began by pressing Biden, telling him that "black people saved your political life in the primaries this year, and they have things they want from you, and one of them is a black woman running mate.""I guarantee you that there are multiple black women being considered. Multiple," Biden said, just as he was interrupted by someone off-frame telling him his interview time was up."You can't do that to black media," Charlamagne protested."I can do that to white media and black media because my wife has to go on at six o'clock," Biden replied. Charlamagne, visibly peeved, told Biden he ought to pick up the conversation again down the line because "it's a long way to November, we've got more questions.""You've got more questions," Biden said. "I'll tell you, if y...

Serbian soldiers guard migrant camp near Croatia border

Image
Armed Serbian soldiers are now guarding a migrant camp on the border with Croatia in an attempt to prevent the migrants from trying to cross into the European Union. The decision to station soldiers at the camp came after Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic last Friday held talks with Prime Minister Victor Orban of neighbouring Hungary, one of the most vociferous opponents of illegal migration into Europe. The presence of the soldiers, however, seems unlikely to deter migrants from continuing their attempts to cross the border into Croatia, which unlike Serbia is an EU member state, on their way westwards to wealthier nations such as Germany. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://ift.tt/36krnN6 via Latest News

"We're ready for whatever, whenever," President Nicolas Maduro told state-run media, thanking "all the support" from its Middle East ally in its confrontation with the United States. Venezuela has the world's largest proven oil reserves, but its capacity to refine crude into gasoline is limited. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://ift.tt/2ANTloO via Latest News

Beijing moves to crack down on Hong Kong with new security law

Image
China's Communist Party announced Thursday it will move forward with a new security law for Hong Kong, cracking down on dissent in the region and taking one of its most aggressive steps yet in asserting control over Hong Kong's relative autonomy. The law is somewhat vague at this point, but a spokesperson in Beijing said "the law would improve legal and enforcement mechanisms for safeguarding national security in Hong Kong," writes The Wall Street Journal. It will reportedly likely define and criminalize seditious behavior, reports NPR.The crackdown follows persistent wide-scale protests in Hong Kong, led by pro-democracy opposition groups. TCL 10 Pro and 10L will get Android 11 and two years of security updates

Image
Back in April TCL made the 10 Pro and 10L official, and they went on sale earlier this month. These are the two Android smartphones that the company is primarily using to make a name for itself outside of China. While TCL has made a lot of Alcatel and BlackBerry branded handsets over the years, few people in the Western world know about it in this respect. Neither the 10 Pro nor the 10L are proper flagship devices, instead TCL is apparently emulating HMD Global's initial strategy with the revived Nokia brand - go after the mid-range first. Though nowadays even in that price segment,... from GSMArena.com - Latest articles https://ift.tt/3gf1B1q via IFTTT
