Galaxy S9 and S9+ top Consumer Reports charts thanks to improved durability, audio

Image
Samsung is on a roll - the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ have topped the charts over at Consumer Reports, replacing the S8 duo, which itself displaced the S7 phones from the top spot. CR says that while there are no major changes in some areas, in others the improvements are well worth it. When the S8 was tested it only lasted 50 drops in the tumbler before it stopped working. The Galaxy S9 went through all 100 drops and came out with "just minor scratches" while the larger S9+ lived through the first 50 no problem, but cracked in the second 50 drops. Israel hints it could hit Iran's 'air force' in Syria

Image
By Dan Williams JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel released details on Tuesday about what it described as an Iranian "air force" deployed in neighboring Syria, including civilian planes suspected of transferring arms, a signal that these could be attacked should tensions with Tehran escalate. Iran, along with Damascus and its big-power backer Russia, blamed Israel for an April 9 air strike on a Syrian air base, T-4, that killed seven Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) members. Israeli media ran satellite images and a map of five Syrian air bases allegedly used to field Iranian drones or cargo aircraft, as well as the names of three senior IRGC officers suspected of commanding related projects, such as missile units. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://ift.tt/2HxedlV via Latest News

Merkel's tougher Russia stance meets resistance in Germany

Image
By Markus Wacket and Thomas Escritt BERLIN (Reuters) - Germany's Europe minister called on Monday for a new policy of easing tensions with Russia, adding to a chorus of voices pressing Chancellor Angela Merkel to moderate her hardened stance towards the Kremlin. The conservative chancellor swung behind Britain after the poison attack on a former Russian double agent in England last month, expelling four diplomats despite uneasiness among a political class that is wary of confrontation with Germany's giant eastern neighbour. Europe Minister Michael Roth, a member of the Social Democrat party (SPD), said that while the European Union needed a united front on Russia, sanctions should aim to bring Moscow to the negotiating table. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://ift.tt/2H2LUIu via Latest News

Is the F-35 Now the Ultimate Drone Killer?

Image
An F-35 used sensors, on-board computers and targeting systems to find, track and destroy two airborne drones at once. Previous test data and observers have confirmed the F-35 identified and targeted the drone with its mission systems sensors, passed the target ‘track’ information to the missile, enabled the pilot to verify targeting information using the high off-boresight capability of the helmet mounted display and launched the AIM-9X from the aircraft to engage the target drone, a statement from the F-35 JPO said. When a single F-35 used sensors, on-board computers and targeting systems to find, track and destroy two airborne drones at the same time with air-to-air missiles, the emerging 5th Gen fighter transitioned into a new era for offensive attack missions. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://ift.tt/2EWGvkq via Latest News

U.S. strike on China's ZTE another blow for Qualcomm

Image
SHANGHAI/BEIJING (Reuters) - A move by the United States to ban American firms selling components to the Chinese telecom equipment maker ZTE Corp will also hit a target closer to home: Qualcomm Inc, a U.S. company that is a major supplier of chips for ZTE's phones. The U.S. Department of Commerce slapped a seven-year ban on sales to ZTE on Monday for breaking terms of an agreement reached last year after it was caught illegally shipping goods to Iran.
