Trump blasts FBI counterintel probe into whether he worked for Russia

Image
President Donald Trump blasted the FBI on Saturday, insisting it acted "for no reason & with no proof" when it opened an investigation into whether he was acting on Russia's behalf after he fired the agency's director, James Comey, in May 2017. The New York Times reported that the FBI launched the previously undisclosed counterintelligence investigation to determine whether Trump posed a national security threat, at the same time that it opened a criminal probe into possible obstruction of justice by the president. The FBI investigation was subsequently folded into the broader probe by Special Counsel Robert Mueller into Russia's meddling in the 2016 election and possible collaboration by the Trump campaign. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://yhoo.it/2FsaN2u via Latest News

Indonesia recovers second black box from Lion Air crash

Image
The cockpit voice recorder from an Indonesian Lion Air jet that crashed in October has been recovered, officials said Monday, a discovery that could be critical to explaining why a brand new plane fell out of the sky just after take-off. The Boeing 737 MAX vanished from radar about 13 minutes after departing Jakarta, slamming into the Java Sea moments after pilots had asked to return to the capital and killing all 189 people onboard. The bright orange voice recorder was discovered early Monday about 10 metres from a flight data recorder that was pinpointed back in November, authorities said. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://yhoo.it/2D7BkAD via Latest News

Canadian air traffic controllers send pizza to U.S. colleagues working without pay

Image
It's the fourth week of Donald Trump's government shutdown, with around 800,000 federal employees working without pay since Dec. 22. That includes air traffic controllers, like those working in the New York Air Traffic Control Center, who, while they're still waiting for their paychecks, received a tasty symbol of solidarity from their colleagues across the Canadian border. SEE ALSO: Jimmy Kimmel gives federal employees work during Trump's shutdown Canadian air traffic controllers from the Atlantic province towns of Gander and Moncton ordered pizzas for the crew working at the control center in Ronkonkoma, Long Island on Friday, according to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). Pointed out by the news outlet, a notice was posted up in the hallway of the centre heralding the arrival of 32 pies courtesy of the Canadian Air Traffic Controller Association (CATCA).  An image of the notice was posted to Reddit by David Lombardo, a former air traffic controller at the ...

Pompeo 'optimistic' Syria Kurds, Turkey can be protected

Image
Washington's top diplomat said Saturday he was "optimistic" a way could be found to protect Syrian Kurds while allowing Turks to "defend their country from terrorists" following a US pullout from Syria. "We are confident we can achieve an outcome that achieves both of those," Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told journalists in Abu Dhabi. House Democrats eye reported FBI probe of Trump

The New York Times reported that the probe began in the days after Trump fired James Comey as director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in May 2017 and said the agency's counterintelligence investigators had to consider whether Trump's actions constituted a possible threat to national security. Trump rejected the Times piece in a late Saturday night interview on Fox News as "the most insulting article I've ever had written" and lashed out at Comey and the FBI in half a dozen tweets. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler said his panel "will take steps to better understand both the president's actions and the FBI's response to that behavior" in coming weeks. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://yhoo.it/2HaigFV via Latest News

US government warns workers paid by mistake not to spend money during shutdown

Image
As hundreds of thousands of federal workers fretted on Friday about how they will pay bills amid the partial government shutdown, the missed pay-checks turned out to be particularly cruel for nearly three dozen employees at one obscure government agency. Because of an apparent clerical error, a federal division that processes pay-checks for a big chunk of the government workforce mistakenly paid about 30 employees at the Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board. Oppo is introducing 10x optical zoom camera on January 16

Image
Two years ago, Oppo attended MWC 2017 but didn't showcase a smartphone. Instead, the company chose to go with mobile technologies, announcing the world's first dual camera with 5x zoom. Now the company is ready to go even further and is sending out media invites for its 10x lossless zoom solution. The event will take place in Beijing, China, on January 16. The current 5x setup is essentially a 5P lens, followed by a 90-degree angular prism that directs the light to a vertically positioned camera sensor. The OIS unit is put on the other end, so it would work even when the zoom is... from GSMArena.com - Latest articles http://bit.ly/2FoS9t3 via IFTTT

Week 2 in review: Redmi Note 7 is here, Galaxy S10 is coming, iPhone 11 leaks

Image
It's week 2 of the year and CES was its main event. There weren't many grand phone announcements at the CES floor though - in fact the most popular news of the week was the announcement of the Redmi Note 7 and Redmi's new life as a separate brand, complete with its own logo. Xiaomi also dropped the AirDots Pro competitor to Apple's AirPods. We can't speak to their design or sound quality, but their $60 price is more than half of the AirPods' $160. In unconfirmed Xiaomi news we saw a Xiaomi Cepheus on Geekbench, packing the next-gen Snapdragon 855 chipset - is it the Xiaomi Mi... from GSMArena.com - Latest articles http://bit.ly/2M5UlpG via IFTTT

Counterclockwise: the rise, death and rebirth of the slider phone

Image
Sliders are experiencing a resurgence as the form factor has found a new use. In the early days it was used to make a phone smaller and protect the keypad from accidental presses (by putting the keypad on a slider), today they are used to maximize the screen-to-body ratio - there's no more keyboards, it's the selfie camera that's on the slider. Sliders hit their peak in the 2007-2009 period. A whopping 109 different slider phones were launched in 2009. However, as the chart below shows they experienced a steep decline soon after. The popularity of the form factor peaked in the same... from GSMArena.com - Latest articles http://bit.ly/2HaxzOD via IFTTT

Weekly poll results: 6" is the new 5.2"

Image
Back in 2016 our poll showed that people preferred screens between 5" and 5.3". Then in 2017, 5.2" was elected best although larger sizes were already gaining popularity. Now? Now people want larger screen - 6" is the new favorite. Naturally, back then we were mostly talking about 16:9 screens and now the 18:9 aspect ratio is more common. As a reminder, a 6" 18:9 screen is equivalent to a 5.5" 16:9 screen (same width, but taller). A quick calculation shows that a 6" 18:9 screen has about 25% more surface area than a 5.2" 16:9 screen. FBI 'investigated whether Trump was secretly working for Russia'

Image
Law enforcement officials became so concerned by President Donald Trump's behaviour in the days after he fired FBI Director James Comey that they began investigating whether he had been working for Russia against US interests, The New York Times reported on Friday. The report cites unnamed former law enforcement officials and others familiar with the investigation. The inquiry forced counterintelligence investigators to evaluate whether Mr Trump was a potential threat to national security, and they also sought to determine whether Mr Trump was deliberately working for Russia or had unintentionally been influenced by Moscow. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://yhoo.it/2CkKNCX via Latest News

Border plan sparks fear in Kosovo's Serb enclaves

Image
A possible land swap between Serbia and Kosovo, suggested by their leaders to end one of Europe's most volatile territorial disputes, has sparked concerns that the border could be redrawn along ethnic lines and reignite festering communal ethnic animosities. With few details yet made public, media reports say that the Serb majority northern border region around the city of Mitrovica would be incorporated into Serbia under the plan, which would also see Belgrade hand over a mainly ethnic Albanian region in Serbia. The trade-off would also see Belgrade finally recognise its former province as an independent state, 20 years after a bitter war between Serbia's forces and pro-independence ethnic Albanian guerrillas that led to Kosovo breaking away from Serbia in 2008. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://yhoo.it/2Fzs3CG via Latest News
