Oreo starts rolling out to Sprint LG V30

Image
Sprint has started pushing out a new update to LG V30 units on its network. Weighing in at around 1.7GB, it's a major update that brings along Android Oreo. There's currently no information on whether or not any other major changes are included in the update - Sprint is yet publish the release notes officially. The roll out has just begin, so it may take time for the update notification to pop up on your device's screen. This comes less than a couple of weeks after the Verizon V30 started getting the Oreo update. Via from GSMArena.com - Latest articles http://ift.tt/2GNGCkX via IFTTT

AT&T's Samsung Galaxy S8 is now tasting Oreo

Image
AT&T is the latest carrier to roll out the update to Android 8.0 Oreo to the Galaxy S8 units it's sold. It follows Sprint, Verizon, and T-Mobile. Currently the new software version is available through all of the Big Four US carriers, and it's rare to see all of them push out an Android update within days of one another. Right now reports are only mentioning the Galaxy S8 sold by AT&T receiving Oreo, but we assume the rollout for the S8+ is also underway - it's been outed at the same time by the other carriers, so there would be no reason for AT&T to delay it. If you own an S8... from GSMArena.com - Latest articles http://ift.tt/2GM6mxR via IFTTT

Honor View 10, Honor 9, Honor 7X, and Honor 6A all get discounts in the UK

Image
Huawei's online-first sub-brand Honor usually pairs good specs with attractive pricing, but that's even more true now that four of its smartphones have received discounts in the UK at Amazon, thanks to the retailer's "Early Easter Sale". Note that these are probably limited time offers, so if any of them sounds interesting you shouldn't put off a purchase for too long. Honor View 10 The Honor View 10 is normally priced at £450 but you can now grab one for £375, making it even more of a bargain than usual. The Honor 9 is a whopping £100 off, now going for £280. Is this the ZTE Nubia Z19?

Image
The first hint of ZTE's next flagship came a month ago thanks to AnTuTu and it spilled the beans on the chipset - Snapdragon 845. Now, some newly leaked pictures of an unnamed Nubia prototype may as well turn to be of Nubia Z19. The photos you see below show the face and small parts of the back panel of an unknow Nubia device. The phone design was concealed with a protective case. The screen is somewhat familiar - it's a bezel-less unit with a very Essential PH-1-like notch. There is also a dual-camera on the back with a dual-LED flash, fingerprint scanner is also around. The... from GSMArena.com - Latest articles http://ift.tt/2FV0hOx via IFTTT

First hands-on photos of Moto E5 Plus emerge

Image
About a month ago we saw the first, and subsequently last, render of the Moto E5 Plus but things have been quiet ever since. This changes with these first hands-on photos of the phone-to-be in the wild, which are too poor in quality to give out anything new and only show what the render already had. Nevertheless, let's sum up what we suspect and what we can see. The Moto E5 Plus will have an 18:9 aspect display (supposedly a 5.8-inch 720x1440px LCD), a fingerprint scanner on the back (embedded into the Moto logo) and a glossy backside, made to imitate luxury. Analysts: Q1 production of iPhone X as expected, but Q2 numbers slashed

Image
Another group of analysts has chimed in on the iPhone X production numbers. A note from Cowen and Company estimates that 53 million units were produced in Q1 this year, in line with the previous estimate of 52.5 million. However, the next three months will see lower quantities - Cowen reduced the estimate to 9 million iPhone X units (a month ago the prediction was for 13-16 million). Estimates by J.P. Morgan also suggest a slump in Q2. Note that the Q1 numbers differ quite a bit from JPM, which estimates 20 million iPhone X units as does KGI. The analysts predict at least three new... from GSMArena.com - Latest articles http://ift.tt/2G6aGdD via IFTTT

Nimbus Data unveils the world's largest SSD: 100TB of flash storage

Image
The world's largest SSD comes in a surprisingly casual package - Nimbus Data's ExaDrive DC100, a 100TB solid state drive, is packed up in a familiar 3.5" SATA drive form factor. The focus of this drive is efficiency, not speed. It is power efficient (0.1W/TB) and space efficient too. Nimbus says that data centers can reduce their spending for electricity, cooling and rack space by 85%, compared to other large SSDs (like Samsung's 30.72TB SSD). Nimbus estimates that the total cost (drive and all) over a 5-year period will be 42% less per terabyte compared to such drives. Trump touts weapons deals with Saudi Arabia as peace groups accuse US of fuelling kingdom's war on Yemen

Image
Donald Trump has bragged about how Saudi Arabia is a “big purchaser” of American armaments as peace groups assert that the weapons the US is selling to the kingdom are being used to kill thousands of innocent people in Yemen. “A lot of people are at work” because of Saudi Arabia’s business, Mr Trump said while welcoming Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman to the White House, adding that the kingdom has finalised $12.5bn in purchases of planes, missiles and frigates from US companies. “I would really have to say the relationship was to put it mildly the relationship was very very strained during the Obama administration, and the relationship now is probably as good as it’s really ever been, and think will probably only get better,” Mr Trump said. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines http://ift.tt/2u7Inqk via Latest News

USS Juneau discovered: The five brothers who went down together with the sunken battleship

Image
The USS Juneau is the latest Second World War wreck to be discovered by a team funded by billionaire Microsoft co-founder, Paul Allen. The discovery on March 17 locates another mass grave of American servicemen, as only 10 of its almost 700-strong crew survived its sinking during the Battle of Guadalcanal in 1942. Among the hundreds who went down with the ship were five brothers, the Sullivans, who had insisted on serving together despite US military policies designed to avoid multiple losses to a single family. The story of the siblings had a profound effect on the American public and prompted the implementation of the Sole Survivor Policy, which led to the events that the film Saving Private Ryan is based on. The Sullivans have since been feted in the US as “epitomising the service and sacrifice of our nation’s greatest generation”. The brothers and the other sailors on the USS Juneau gave their lives in the bloody efforts to wrestle the Solomon Islands from Japanese Imperial control

Xi warns Taiwan will face 'punishment of history' for separatism

Image
By Philip Wen and Ben Blanchard BEIJING (Reuters) - Chinese President Xi Jinping told self-ruled Taiwan on Tuesday that it would face the "punishment of history" for any attempt at separatism, offering his strongest warning yet to the island claimed by China as its sacred territory. The government of Taiwan, one of China's most sensitive issues and a potentially dangerous military flashpoint, responded that it hoped China could "break free" of the old clichés of threats and force.
