Saudi princess tried in absentia for alleged Paris beating

Image
The only daughter of Saudi Arabia's King Salman was put on trial in absentia Tuesday in Paris for allegedly ordering her bodyguard to strike a plumber she suspected of taking photos and video at the Saudi royal family's apartment in the French capital. Prosecutors allege Princess Hessa bint Salman became enraged when she saw the plumber allegedly capturing her image, fearing the pictures could be used to harm her as the Saudi monarch's daughter due to her country's conservative traditions. The princess' lawyer said she was not present because correspondence was sent to the Paris address, not to the royal palace in Saudi Arabia. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://ift.tt/2JnevvM via Latest News

Ocasio-Cortez Sued for Blocking Twitter Users

Image
A former New York state lawmaker filed suit against Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Wednesday, claiming it was unconstitutional for the progressive firebrand to block him and others on Twitter. In a court filing, the former New York assemblyman, Dov Hikind, argued that it was unconstitutional for Ocasio-Cortez to block him from her popular official Twitter account given that she uses the account as a public forum where she advocates for her positions and comments about the news cycle. The suit adds that the freshman congresswoman has blocked others, including student group Students for Trump and Ryan Saavedra, who writes for conservative news outlet The Daily Wire. Hikind, a "staunch advocate for Jewish causes and the State of Israel" according to the suit, said he was blocked after he "criticized" Ocasio-Cortez's recent comments comparing detention centers on the southern border to Nazi concentration camps.“No one is above the law. China demands US cancel arms sale to Taiwan

Image
China demanded Tuesday that the United States "immediately cancel" a potential sale of $2.2 billion in arms to self-ruled Taiwan, including battle tanks and anti-aircraft missiles, adding fuel to tensions between the two powers. The US later shrugged off China's complaints, responding that the equipment would contribute to "peace and stability" in Asia. The sale would be the first transfer of big-ticket US military gear to the democratically-governed island in decades, and comes as ties between Washington and Beijing are already strained by their trade war. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://ift.tt/2G1StwE via Latest News

Why Trump Is Standing by Acosta on the Epstein Plea Deal

Image
Photo Illustration by The Daily Beast/GettySince late last year, different factions have been pressuring Donald Trump to sack Labor Secretary Alexander Acosta, but as of Tuesday evening, the president was still sticking to a script that he’s honed when confronting allegations against his powerful friends and allies: double down and stand by your man.  “For two and a half years, he’s been just an excellent secretary of Labor. He’s done a fantastic job,” Trump told reporters on Tuesday. “If you go back and look at everybody else’s decisions, whether it’s a U.S. attorney or an assistant U.S. attorney or a judge… I would think you’d probably find that they would wish they maybe did it a different way. I do hear that there were a lot of people involved in that decision, not just him. I can only say this from what I know, and what I do is he’s been a great—really great—secretary of Labor.”The president added that “we’ll look at it very carefully, we’ll be looking at that very carefully, OK?”

Iran has recently breached the deal's limits on uranium enrichment, in an attempt to pressure European partners to find a way around sanctions imposed by the U.S. after it withdrew unilaterally from the pact last year. Iran's representative to international organizations in Vienna, Kazem Gharib Abadi, told a meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency Wednesday U.S. actions were "neither legitimate nor legal" and should not be accepted by the international community. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://ift.tt/2XD2CWy via Latest News

Tax returns show Biden income spiked after leaving office

Image
Democrat Joe Biden made more than $15 million in the two years since leaving the US vice presidency, according to tax returns released Tuesday, making him the wealthiest major 2020 challenger to President Donald Trump. The Democratic frontrunner's income spiked to $11 million in 2017 from just under $400,000 one year earlier, when he was serving his final year as vice president. The majority of the $11,037,751 in 2017 income and the $4,580,437 in 2018 is attributable to book payments -- Biden wrote "Promise Me, Dad," and his wife Jill Biden penned "Where the Light Enters" -- and "paid speaking engagements," his campaign said in a statement releasing the tax returns. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://ift.tt/30lHy8y via Latest News
