Archeologists believe Norway find is rare Viking ship burial

Image
Archeologists believe they have found a rare Viking ship burial site in a region of Norway known for its Viking-era treasures, Norwegian officials said Monday. Using ground-penetrating radar (GPR), experts found a ship-shaped anomaly near other Viking burial mounds in the Borre Park in Vestfold county, southeast of Oslo. This could point to the existence of a mound that was later removed," Terje Gansum, leader of the department for cultural heritage management in Vestfold county, said in a statement. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://ift.tt/2TUQWkR via Latest News

Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou was carrying an iPhone when she was arrested last year

Image
The tech industry certainly has its share of scandals, but the drama surrounding Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou certainly takes things to the next level. This past December, Wanzhou was arrested in Canada (at the behest of the United States) on charges of wire fraud and improper business dealings with Iran. Wanzhou may ultimately be extradited to the U.S. as China, not surprisingly, has vehemently denied the allegations on Wanzhou's behalf. As Huawei executives would have you believe, the charges are simply a means to hinder the company's growth. The legal case involving Wanzhou is still playing out, but recently released court documents include a surprising revelation regarding the gear Wanzhou had in her possession when she was arrested. Originally made public by the Twitter account theBreakerNews, it turns out that Wanzhou had a penchant for Apple products.Upon her arrest, Wanzhou had a MacBook Air, an iPad Pro, and an iPhone 7 Plus in her possession. She was also carrying a Huawei ...

Anti-stall system likely activated in crash: Ethiopian Airlines CEO

Image
An anti-stall system believed to have caused a fatal October jet crash in Indonesia was probably also involved in this month's crash of an Ethiopian Airlines plane that killed all 157 people onboard, the carrier's CEO said on Monday. Tewolde GebreMariam told The Wall Street Journal an automatic anti-stalling system specific to the Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft was "to the best of our knowledge" activated on the fatal March 10 crash of Flight ET 302 minutes into its journey to Nairobi. Although he is not a part of the official crash probe and gave no details on how he knew of the system's activation, Tewolde's comment adds pressure on Boeing to fix the popular aircraft model, which was grounded worldwide after the disaster. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://ift.tt/2TsHgsN via Latest News

Trump Officially Recognizes Golan Heights as Israeli Territory

Image
President Trump on Monday signed an order recognizing Israel's sovereignty over the Golan Heights, abruptly shifting long-standing U.S. policy on the matter."We're celebrating the Golan Heights. It's something that I've been hearing about for many years," Trump said during remarks to reporters at the White House alongside Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu. "This should have been done, I would say, numerous presidents ago, but for some reason they didn't do it, and I'm very honored to have done it."Israel has held the Golan for 52 years since capturing it from Syria in the 1967 Six-Day War. About 20,000 Israelis and 20,000 Syrians live in the territory, whose 1981 annexation by Israel was not recognized internationally. The disputed land remains a fraught issue in Middle East politics; Syria attacked Trump's decision as "a blatant attack on its sovereignty" and threatened to recapture the region "through all availabl...

Apple is expected to start its transition from a hardware company to a services company. Apple Music is already competing with Spotify, but the company has hired Hollywood stars to launch a Netflix competitor as well. The new service will host original content, both films and TV shows (produced with budget totaling $1 billion). Luminaries like JJ Abrams, Steven Spielberg, M. To get a better grasp of the handset, the guys over at LetsGoDigital made a few 3D renders. Oklahoma top court clears way for Purdue, J&J, Teva to face opioid trial

Image
The Oklahoma Supreme Court's decision was a win for the state's attorney general, whose case is set to be the first to face trial of roughly 2,000 lawsuits nationally seeking to hold opioid manufacturers responsible for contributing to the epidemic. Oklahoma Attorney General Mike Hunter's 2017 lawsuit accuses Purdue, Johnson & Johnson & Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd of engaging in deceptive marketing that downplayed the risks of addiction associated with opioid pain drugs while overstating their benefits. The trial delay bid came as Purdue, owned by members of the wealthy Sackler family, was exploring filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection to address potential liabilities stemming from the lawsuits, people familiar with the matter have told Reuters. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://ift.tt/2FqOCb5 via Latest News

Mueller report finds no evidence that Trump campaign colluded with Russia: Justice Department

Image
In a major political victory for Trump, who quickly hailed the announcement as "complete and total exoneration," Mueller's nearly two years of investigation ended with a finding that no one in Trump's campaign "conspired or coordinated with the Russian government," according to a summary of Mueller's findings. The long-awaited report into whether Trump's campaign colluded with Russia to help the Republican defeat his Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton, marked a major milestone of his presidency as he prepares for his 2020 re-election battle. Mueller himself did not reach a conclusion on whether Trump broke the law by interfering with the various probes into the 2016 election that have cast a pall over his presidency, but presented his evidence to Barr to make a determination. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://ift.tt/2WmkTHf via Latest News
