'Orwell is rolling in his grave': Anger and disbelief at strict new lockdown rules in Moscow

Image
The Moscow City Hall on Wednesday promised to re-open parks and finally allow walks after nine weeks of coronavirus lockdown but the incredibly strict rules regulating outdoor activities have been met with universal derision. Sergei Sobyanin, the Moscow mayor, announced something that could be a cause for celebration on Wednesday, telling Vladimir Putin, the president, in a televised conference call that the Russian capital was poised to begin lifting some of the lockdown restrictions. The number of new Covid-19 cases recorded in Moscow on Thursday, was just over 2,000, the lowest in five weeks, and the number of hospitalisations dropped by 40 per cent in a fortnight, according to the mayor. Most of Moscow’s shops and parks will re-open on Monday, and walks and outdoor exercises will finally be allowed but with a caveat. The details of what the City Hall dubbed an “experiment” have angered even the mayor’s supporters who have credited him for stemming the outbreak. Each apartment build...

Fox News Star Geraldo Rivera Unloads on Trump: ‘What Is This, 6th Grade?!’

Image
Geraldo Rivera delivered one of the harshest condemnations of Donald Trump ever aired on Fox News Friday afternoon when he appeared on The Five and took the president to task for threatening Minneapolis protesters with violence. After first criticizing Democrats for “studiously avoiding” the looting and vandalism by “anarchists” in that city following the police killing of George Floyd, Rivera pivoted to attack Trump directly. “But the other thing is, the president, in these tweets, ‘when the looting starts, the shooting starts,’ c’mon!” Rivera said, referring to the tweet that Twitter hid from Trump’s timeline because it broke its rules on “glorifying violence.” “What is this, 6th grade?” he asked. “You don’t put gasoline on the fire. That’s not calming anybody. Who are you daring?” Rivera mocked the idea that any demonstrators would stop what they’re doing because Donald Trump tweeted that they might get shot. “That’s not going to happen!” he exclaimed. “All he does is dimini...

The Latest: US agency calls back drone it sent to Minnesota

Image
U.S. Customs and Border Patrol says it dispatched a drone to Minneapolis following three nights of violent protests there but ended up sending it back to its base because the unmanned aerial vehicle wasn’t needed. The agency, which typically patrols the nation’s border and ports of entry, said the drone was going to provide live video to assist law enforcement in Minneapolis as they responded to protests that have left dozens of stores burned and looted. President Donald Trump says he talked to members of George Floyd’s family on Friday and “expressed my sorrow.” from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://ift.tt/2zAwLzQ via Latest News

Move over James Bond; India returns alleged bird spy to Pakistan

Image
Indian police have released a pigeon belonging to a Pakistani fisherman after a probe found that the bird, which had flown across the contentious border between the nuclear-armed nations, was not a spy, two officials said on Friday. "The pigeon was set free yesterday (May 28) after nothing suspicious was found," said Shailendra Mishra, a senior police official in Indian-administered Kashmir. The Pakistani owner of the pigeon had urged India to return his bird, which Indian villagers turned over to police after discovering it. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://ift.tt/2M9jUXJ via Latest News

Minneapolis bus drivers are refusing to help police transport protesters to jail

Image
As tensions between police and protesters in Minneapolis reached a boiling point following the death of George Floyd, the city's bus drivers have made it abundantly clear which side they're on. The driver's union, ATU Local 1005, issued a statement of solidarity on Thursday, with some of its drivers going as far as to refuse to use their buses to help law enforcement transport protesters to jail."As a transit worker and union member, I refuse to transport my class and radical youth," one Minneapolis bus driver, Adam Burch, told the labor publication Payday. "An injury to one is an injury to all. The police murdered George Floyd and the protest against is completely justified and should continue until their demands are met."The union shared Burch's sentiment. "This system has failed all of us in the working class, from the coronavirus to the economic crisis we are facing," their statement read. "But the system has failed people of color...

Rush Limbaugh: Trump’s ‘Clever’ to Peddle Baseless Murder Conspiracies

Image
Conservative radio host and recent Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient Rush Limbaugh praised President Donald Trump on Wednesday as “clever” for falsely accusing MSNBC host Joe Scarborough of murder, claiming the president is “just throwing gasoline on a fire” because he’s “having fun.”Over the past several weeks, the president has repeatedly suggested that Scarborough—while he was a member of Congress in 2001—killed his aide Lori Klausutis. Her death, which occurred in Scarborough’s Florida congressional office, was ruled an accident due to an abnormal heart rhythm. Furthermore, Scarborough was in D.C. at the time.Despite Klausutis’ widower begging the president to please stop dragging her name through the mud in order to attack a cable news host, the president has persisted. Limbaugh, for one, applauded the president for continuing to peddle the conspiracies.“So Trump goes out there and starts tweeting about Jeff Sessions, and then he starts tweeting about Scarborough perhaps bei...
