Iran appears to soften stance on OPEC oil output increase

Iran appeared on Sunday to soften its stance on potential increases in OPEC oil output, saying it was the group's responsibility to balance the market if production from Iran or any other member declined. Tehran had previously said no OPEC member was allowed to grab market share from rivals, such as Venezuela or Libya, whose production had declined due to unrest or a lack of investment. Iran itself faces the prospect of much lower oil exports and output in coming months due to fresh U.S. sanctions. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://ift.tt/2QU0sPR via Latest News

Four sharks killed after attack on swimmers near Great Barrier Reef

Image
Four large sharks have been killed in Australia after a woman and a 12-year-old girl were attacked at a popular Great Barrier Reef tourist spot. Both were still in hospital Sunday after being mauled in separate incidents just a day apart last week at the Whitsunday Islands. Drum lines, which use baited hooks to catch the predators, ensnared four tiger sharks, one 3.7 metres (12 feet) long and the others each between two to three metres, a Fisheries Queensland spokesman said Sunday. "While sharks of this size are potentially very dangerous to humans, it is unclear if they were responsible for injuries caused to two swimmers," he said. The latest shark to be caught "has been humanely euthanised and will be taken further out to sea for disposal." The spokesman said it was clear "there are a significant number of active sharks in local waters and people are urged not to swim". The drumlines were to remain in place over the next week. Shark attacks are very...

China comes out ahead in Vatican deal: analysts

The landmark deal between China and the Vatican is a win for Beijing, giving official recognition to bishops appointed by the government despite a crackdown on religion, and potentially softening the ground for full diplomatic relations after 67 years of estrangement, analysts said. The two sides signed a provisional agreement on Saturday on who gets to name senior churchmen, an issue that has bedevilled ties for decades, and China quickly said it hoped for an improvement in relations. Remember the AirPower? Apple doesn't

Image
We were given a sneak peek in 2017, but Apple's AirPower still hasn't seen the light of day. With nothing forthcoming from Apple, has it been canceled or delayed? September 14 2017, was the day Apple introduced us to its then-new iPhone 8/8 Plus, and who can forget the Phone X and with them an overdue feature arrived - wireless charging. Clothed with glass backsides, the new iPhones were capable of being wirelessly charged at 5W at launch. A subsequent software update raised the ceiling to 7.5W. Top 10 trending phones of week 38

Image
After last week Apple launched the new iPhone lineup it immediately occupied the first three spots in our popularity chart. Such a domination was never going to last, but it's still surprising how quickly the new iPhone trio started to lose ground despite just hitting the shelves. The iPhone XS Max is the only one on the podium hanging onto second, while the regular XS and the XR are all the way down to fifth and seventh places. The title this week goes to the Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018), which just debuted with its triple camera setup - a first for a mid-range phone. Sunday Debate: iPhone XS Max vs a used car

Image
It's been highly commented upon in the past how expensive our phones are becoming year on year. This year the iPhone XS Max with 512GB costs £1,449/$1,449/€1,649. Causing many to pause for thought at what else they could or should be buying for that price. New TV, a new laptop or a family holiday perhaps? What about a used car? We're all fans here of Top Gear so the producers (or in this case our Lead News Editor) challenged us to find a used car for the same value as the tricked-out iPhone. Sony WH-1000XM3 review - the best noise-cancelling in town

Introduction With version three of its over the ear wireless noise-cancelling headphones, Sony is making the biggest changes both outside and in. The WH-1000XM3 build on the established formula of its predecessors and take direct aim at Bose's ubiquitous QuietComfort 35 II. I found Sony's latest cans outdo the Bose in terms of noise-cancelling, but whether they sound better than Sony's own 1000X's is a more complicated question entirely. RIP Apple iPhone SE

Image
To quote Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die." This popular passage refers to the balanced, cyclical nature of life, helping to justify that there is a right time for everything. But was this the right time for the demise of the iPhone SE? When Apple announced the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR (don't get me started on those names) in the background it quietly retired the venerable iPhone SE. Mike Pompeo warns White House staff as he denies Rosenstein wiretapping allegations

Image
Mike Pompeo, the US Secretary of State, on Sunday publicly warned administration staff that they needed to either work with the Trump agenda or leave their positions. His comments came after reports that Rod Rosenstein, the deputy attorney general, discussed wearing a wire and recruiting cabinet members to invoke the 25th amendment in the days following the firing of James Comey, the FBI director.  The  25th amendment allows for the removal of the president from office if he or she was deemed unfit to carry out duties. In a thinly-veiled attack raising further questions over whether Mr Trump would fire Mr Rosenstein, Mr Pompeo suggested that White House officials should find "something else to do" if they do not support President Trump's agenda.  "I’ve been pretty clear since my beginning of service here in this administration, if you can’t be on the team, if you’re not supporting this mission, then maybe you ought to find something else to do,” he said.
