Samsung's foldable phone to sport triple cameras

Image
Samsung's upcoming Galaxy F is getting a lot of attention for being a game-changing device in the smartphone industry. The latest rumor comes from ETNews where an industry source in South Korea claims that Samsung is going to supply triple camera modules to be used in the upcoming foldable smartphone. The triple camera module is expected to be similar to the one on the upcoming Galaxy S10+, according to the report, and is rumored to be announced sometime in March. It is said to combine a dual camera with a third super-wide camera. A similar setup is found on the Galaxy A7 - a dual camera... from GSMArena.com - Latest articles http://bit.ly/2QkfsFw via IFTTT

FCC greenlights Google project for touch-free motion sensor

Image
FCC has approved Google to test a new radar motion sensor technology, Android Authority revealed earlier today. It is called Project Soli and can allow users to operate devices without actually touching anything via radar signals. The technology is quite different from what Samsung introduced back in 2013 with the Galaxy S4 and the gestures over the screen. Back then, the Korean company implemented camera sensors, while now Google is working on radar sensitivity that reads all kinds of hand gestures in the air. The reason for FCC to approve the test of such technology is using... from GSMArena.com - Latest articles http://bit.ly/2VnRn4c via IFTTT

Huawei patent reveals a case for the Mate 30 Pro with a larger camera window

Image
Perhaps it is still too early for Mate 30 news. After all, the Mate 20 Pro was announced just this past October so we won't expect it to be released at least until next fall. But since we're on the topic of it, a new report surfaced with renders of a case for a smartphone that Huawei has patented. This case was patented by Huawei with the CNIPA (China National Intellectual Property Administration) and the published renders first became public on January 1 (first reported by Mobielkopen). Apple finally acknowledges lower-than-expected iPhone sales

Image
Today, Apple released an open letter to investors revising its guidance for Q1 of this year. The "guidance" is the information a company provides as a way to predict its future earnings. This is a rare occurrence, especially for a company with a status as grand as Apple. Essentially, Apple is lowering its guidance (expected revenue) for the first quarter of 2019 from (previously) between $89 billion and $93 billion down to $84 billion. This is compared to Apple's reported $88.3 billion in revenue for Q1 of 2018. LG patents a smart watch with a camera

Image
The consensus ever since the first Samsung Gear was that a smart watch didn't need a built-in camera. We know this because Samsung never put a camera in any other wearable after the first Samsung Gear. To be fair, some kids smart watches have cameras but we're talking about the mass market consumer. Interestingly, this notion could change in the not-so-distant future from LG's point of view. LetsGoDigital reported about a patent that was filed with the USTPO (United States Trademark and Patent Office) by LG for a ‘smart watch and method for controlling same' as the patent is titled. The Nokia 8.1 uses NEG Dinorex instead of Gorilla Glass

Image
Most recent Nokia phones use Gorilla Glass by Corning to protect their screens from scratches and cracks (as do most smartphones out there). The latest Nokia 8.1 skips GG in favor of another brand of strengthened glass - Dinorex by NEG. NEG is a Japanese company (Nippon Electric Glass) and uses a similar process to Corning - depositing potassium ions on the surface of the glass to toughen the glass. It's already used by several phones including models by ZTE (e.g. the nubia Red Magic Mars), Meizu and BQ. Sony Xperia XZ4 with Snapdragon 855 tops AnTuTu with 395K score

Image
An unofficial Sony phone has popped up on AnTuTu with a model number I8134 and a score of 395K. This most likely is the upcoming Xperia XZ4 and the chipset it's running is the Snapdragon 855. The score of 395K is higher than the 360K we've seen from an earlier Snapdragon 855 AnTuTu test but points to a reasonable average. It's also higher than the Huawei Kirin 980 (~270K) and Apple A12 Bionic (~350K) scores we've seen. Rubbish piles up at US national parks due to government shutdown

Image
Some of America's iconic national parks are in danger of being overwhelmed by rubbish and could suffer significant damage due to the partial shutdown of the US government, conservationists have warned. Donald Trump said he had "no choice" but to continue the shutdown, blaming Democrats as litter and human waste piled up at tourist areas around the country. Dakota Snider, 24, who works in Yosemite Valley, said: "It's so heartbreaking. There is more trash and human waste and disregard for the rules than I've seen. It's a free-for-all." The US government has been partially shut down for 11 days due to a standoff between Mr Trump and Democrats in Congress, who are refusing to authorise $5.7 billion to fund a large part of the president's proposed wall on the Mexico border. Hundreds of thousands of public employees have been sent home, including rangers and other park staff.  A road lined with trash in Yosemite National Park Credit: Dakota Snider Unli

The nuclear-powered space probe has traveled 4 billion miles (6.4 billion km) to come within 2,200 miles (3,540 km) of Ultima Thule, an apparently peanut-shaped, 20-mile-long (32-km-long) space rock in the uncharted heart of the Kuiper Belt. Engineers at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in Maryland cheered when the spacecraft's first signals came through the National Aeronautic and Space Agency's Deep Space Network at 10:28 a.m. EST (1528 GMT). "We have a healthy spacecraft," Mission Operations Manager Alice Bowman declared. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://yhoo.it/2F4rNfV via Latest News

Syria regime says Kurdish fighters withdraw from Manbij

Image
The Syrian regime said Wednesday hundreds of Kurdish fighters had withdrawn from Manbij near the border with Turkey, days after the Kurds appealed to Damascus for support against a threatened Turkish offensive. "A convoy of units of Kurdish fighters comprised of more than 30 vehicles left the region of Manbij, heading towards the eastern bank of the Euphrates River," the defence ministry said online. The People's Protection Units (YPG), the main Kurdish militia in Syria, last week invited regime forces to deploy to the key city following a shock announcement that American troops would leave the country. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://yhoo.it/2SxHCyx via Latest News

U.S. fires tear gas to deter migrants making New Year's run at border

Image
U.S. border agents launched tear gas into Mexico early Tuesday to deter a group of migrants from crossing the U.S.-Mexico border at Tijuana, according to a Reuters witness and the U.S. government. Clouds of the noxious gas could be seen wafting up from around the fence at the border, and one migrant picked up a canister and threw it back across the border into U.S. territory. Tijuana has become a flashpoint in the debate over U.S. immigration policy, which has been intensified by the recent deaths of two migrant children in U.S. custody and a partial U.S. government shutdown over President Donald Trump's $5 billion demand to lawmakers for a wall along the border with Mexico. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://yhoo.it/2LLQjTb via Latest News

You can now make charitable donations through Google Assistant

If you forgot to make any New Year's resolutions last night, here an easy one: Donate to charity. You can change lives by donating just a few dollars to a cause or group of your choice, and now, thanks to Google, it's simpler than ever to do so. As reported by 9to5Google this week, Google Assistant recently gained the ability to make a donation with a voice command. This comes just weeks after a donation page was added to the Play Store. In order to start the process, just say "Ok Google, donate to charity" to your Android device or Google Home. Google Assistant will then ask you which organization you'd like to donate to, and suggests donating $10. You then specify how much you would like to donate, in case you want to give more (or less) than $10. If you know who which organization you want to donate to and how much you want to give, you can also just say "Ok Google, donate to Red Cross" (for example) and you will immediately be asked to confirm the do

Taliban kill 21 Afghan security forces, threaten city: official

Image
Taliban fighters killed more than 20 Afghan security forces in simultaneous raids on a provincial capital and district in northern Afghanistan, an official said Tuesday, as the city braced for further violence. Hundreds of militants were outside Sar-e-Pul city, which provincial governor spokesman Zabihullah Amani said was at risk of falling to the Taliban if reinforcements were not sent. The Taliban have stepped up attacks on security forces across the country, slaughtering police and soldiers in record numbers, as the threat of a US drawdown complicates American-led efforts to end the 17-year conflict. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://yhoo.it/2F3E1EJ via Latest News

Iran bans Instagram - where the president has 2 million followers

Image
Iran’s president Hassan Rouhani is a major presence on Instagram, where his verified account regularly sends out posts to an audience of more than 2 million followers. But Rouhani’s account will no longer be officially allowed in the country after authorities in Iran announced plans to ban the photo sharing app, citing national security concerns. Iran’s National Cyberspace Council has approved steps to block Instagram, according to local reports, following crackdowns on other social media apps. Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Telegram are already banned in the Islamic Republic, with internet providers ordered to block access to the services. The apps have often been used as a way to spread anti-government messages, with Telegram in particular, often cited as a national security concern.
