Most Americans trust Mueller more than Trump, new poll finds

Image
Most Americans think that special counsel Robert Mueller is far more credible than Donald Trump, according to the latest poll released, as the Russia investigation reportedly nears its conclusion. A poll by The Washington Post-Schar School on Tuesday found that 56 per cent of Americans say they trust Mr Mueller’s version of the facts surrounding the Russia investigation more than Mr Trump’s. That is compared to just 33 per cent who say they trust the president's version. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://yhoo.it/2RY4TIQ via Latest News

There Is No New Deal

Image
In his piece “There Is No Green New Deal,” Charlie writes:> What Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has thrust upon our national conversation is not, in any sense, a “Green New Deal.” It does not resemble a Green New Deal. It does not approximate a Green New Deal. It does not so much as represent the shadows or the framework or the embryo of a Green New Deal. It is, instead, the inchoate shopping list of a political novice who has managed to get herself elected to Congress and believes that this has turned her into a visionary.I agree with that, but it’s worth reminding folks that there was never any single coherent thing called “the New Deal.” From the beginning, FDR was clear that he was winging it. At Oglethorpe University, he famously set the tone for what they were up to: “bold, persistent experimentation.” He added, “It is common sense to take a method and try it; if it fails, admit it frankly and try another. But above all, try something.”Roosevelt fans on the left -- and of late on th

Sony Xperia XA3 may actually be called Xperia 10, XZ4 could be the Xperia 10Z

Sony may refresh the name of its Xperia phones. Rumor has it that the Xperia XA3 and Plus will actually be called the "Xperia 10" and "Xperia 10 Plus". There's more to it than that, the "X" name could go away completely. The Xperia XZ4 may launch as the "Xperia 10Z". Other letters are possible too - like "Xperia 10X" - but since X=10 we think that going with "Z" makes more sense (plus, it's a callback to the old Xperia Z flagships). NASA about to pull plug on Mars rover which has been silent for 8 months

Image
NASA is trying one last time to contact its record-setting Mars rover Opportunity, before calling it quits. The rover has been silent for eight months, victim of one of the most intense dust storms in decades. Thick dust darkened the sky last summer and, for months, blocked sunlight from the spacecraft's solar panels. NASA said Tuesday it will issue a final series of recovery commands, on top of more than 1,000 already sent. If there's no response by Wednesday - which NASA suspects will be the case - Opportunity will be declared dead, 15 years after arriving at the red planet. Team members are already looking back at Opportunity's achievements, including confirmation water once flowed on Mars. Opportunity was, by far, the longest-lasting lander on Mars. Besides endurance, the six-wheeled rover set a roaming record of 28 miles (45 kilometers.) Its identical twin, Spirit, was pronounced dead in 2011, a year after it got stuck in sand and communication ceased. Both outlived an

Republicans Are Stuck with a Lousy Deal

Image
The great National Review editor James Burnham famously said, “When there is no alternative, there is no problem.” By this standard, the border deal reached by congressional appropriators this week isn’t a problem for Donald Trump. The deal falls far short of his demand for $5.7 billion in funding for a barrier at the border. At $1.37 billion, it is short even of what had been the Senate’s bipartisan compromise of $1.6 billion before the shutdown drama. But the other options aren’t palatable. If the president opts for a so-called continuing resolution in lieu of the deal, he will get less funding for a barrier, because the CR is based on current spending levels. If he opts for another shutdown confrontation, he is likely to be abandoned by Senate Republicans not eager for a third kick from Mitch McConnell’s proverbial mule.If this is a disappointing state of affairs, it’s a product of poor choices, by Trump and congressional Republicans, on one of the president’s top political priorities

British-born rapper 21 Savage to be released on bond amid US deportation threat

Image
UK-born rap artist 21 Savage, who has been in custody in Georgia for nine days on immigration charges, was granted bond on Tuesday and will be released from custody on Wednesday, his lawyer said. The entertainer, whose real name is Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, was arrested on February 2 by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents over accusations he had overstayed his visa by more than a decade. Officials said he came to the United States from Britain in 2005. Atlanta US Immigration Court Judge Dan Pelletier granted the 26-year-old bond during a hearing on Tuesday, his attorney Charles Kuck told Reuters by phone. The bond amount was set at $100,000, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported. Kuck declined to confirm the amount. His legal team earlier on Tuesday released a statement that said he had been released. Kuck later said Abraham-Joseph remained in ICE custody because the bond was not granted before a daily 2pm deadline, but said he would be released on Wednesday.  21 Savage

OPEC oil production falls as S.Arabia slashes output

Image
Global oil cartel OPEC said Tuesday it sharply reduced crude oil production last month, after heavyweight Saudia Arabia slashed output and exports fell in crisis-hit Venezuela. In its monthly report, OPEC said it produced 797,000 fewer barrels per day in January than in the previous month, a decrease in line with the cartel's pledge to curb output in a bid to boost sagging prices. The decrease by the group of 14 producer countries -- which has long manipulated oil output to influence global prices in members' favour -- brought total production to 30.81 million barrels per day in the month, the report said citing secondary sources. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://yhoo.it/2E7dvJv via Latest News

Not ‘All Americans’ Are ‘Proud That We Have More Women in the Work Force Than Ever Before’

In his State of the Union address, President Trump announced, "All Americans can be proud that we have more women in the work force than ever before." It was one of the few times he received a standing ovation from both Democrats and Republicans.I would not have stood and cheered.Either the president or whoever wrote that line honestly thought it was something worth celebrating or the president simply wanted to say something that would sound wonderful to both Democrats and Republicans, as well as to Americans who do not otherwise support him.Whatever the reason, both the fact that there are more women in the work force than ever before and the fact that Trump thought mentioning it would bring credit to his administration constitute a victory for the feminist Left. Getting women to leave home for the workplace has been one of the central goals of modern feminism.Feminists deny this, claiming they don't prefer that women work outside the home; they only want women to have t

"It is a sad day for America when one of its citizens betrays our country," said Assistant Attorney General John Demers, announcing the indictment. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://yhoo.it/2GFvfNL via Latest News
