Uganda-DRC border point on high alert over Ebola outbreak

Image
At the bustling Mpondwe border post, a woman crossing from the Democratic Republic of Congo into Uganda is whisked away to an isolation unit after a thermal scanner picks up her high temperature. Health workers keep Mulefu Kyakimwa, a 32-year-old vegetable oil trader, under observation but later discharge her, once Ebola has been ruled out as the cause of her fever. The border post is on high alert after a family with suspected Ebola escaped isolation on the Congolese side and entered Uganda, where two of them died this week. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://yhoo.it/2XIEnXz via Latest News

Hong Kong police use tear gas as protesters try to storm parliament

Image
Violent clashes broke out in Hong Kong on Wednesday as police tried to stop protesters storming the city's parliament, while tens of thousands of people blocked key arteries in a show of strength against government plans to allow extraditions to China. Police used tear gas, rubber bullets and batons to disperse crowds of black-clad demonstrators -- most of them young people and students -- calling for authorities to scrap the Beijing-backed law. Clashes broke out shortly after 3:00 pm (0700 GMT) -- the deadline protesters had given for the government to abandon the controversial bill -- and continued throughout the afternoon in the worst political violence the city has seen in years. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://yhoo.it/2XdNfrv via Latest News

Pompeo Claims Iran Is Responsible for Oil-Tanker Attacks

Image
The U.S. intelligence community has concluded that Iran is responsible for the oil-tanker attacks that occurred in the Strait of Hormuz Thursday morning, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said during a press conference hours after the attack. Two oil tankers were attacked within the space of 45 minutes in the Gulf of Oman, off of the coast of Iran, where four oil tankers were similarly attacked last month by Iranian forces.Addressing reporters at the State Department, Pompeo explained that the assessment of Iranian culpability was “based on intelligence, weapons used, the level of expertise needed to execute the operation, recent similar Iranian attacks on shipping, and the fact that no proxy group operating in the area has resources and proficiency to act with such a high degree of sophistication.”> BREAKING: Sec. Abortion rate hits record high of 200,000 as mothers and older women fuel rise

Abortions have reached the highest level ever in the UK, as new data reveals that 200,000 women had their pregnancies terminated last year. The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) published figures today revealing that there were 200,608 abortions for women in England and Wales in 2018. This marked an increase of 4% or 192,900 from the previous year. A further 4,687 abortions were carried out on non-residents in 2018. Experts said that the increase was as a result of older women and mothers being more likely to have abortions. Clare Murphy, director of external affairs at abortion provider the British Pregnancy Advisory Service, said: "The reasons for the increase in abortions for older women in England and Wales are complex. Abortion rates by age range across England and Wales "Accessible contraceptive services are often focused on the needs of younger women and women over the age of 25 can in particular find themselves excluded from schemes providing free, pharmacy
