W.House hopeful Buttigieg raises $25M, cements top tier status

Image
White House hopeful Pete Buttigieg, who if elected would be the first openly gay US president, raised $25 million in the second quarter, his campaign announced Monday, anchoring him firmly in the top tier of Democratic contenders. Virtually unknown at the beginning of the year, the mayor of South Bend, Indiana, who at 37 is the youngest of the two dozen Democrats in the 2020 race, saw his campaign rocked by the fatal police shooting of a black man in his city last month. The announcement follows a strong performance by Buttigieg in last week's Democratic presidential debate, and an impressive first quarter which saw $7 million pour into the campaign's coffers. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://ift.tt/2J2MFVj via Latest News

The new and improved Gay Street sign is all over NYC Pride Twitter

Image
This year the New York City Pride March marks 50 years since the Stonewall Riot, and the parade is  bigger and more colorful than ever. As the march makes its way to Greenwich Village, one street sign in particular is popping up on social media as a symbol of 2019's much-needed focus on inclusion in the queer community. It's pure coincidence that Gay Street intersects with Christopher Street right near the Stonewall Inn -- the "Gay" of Gay Street is a family name -- but its location on the parade route makes it prime real estate for a statement on what pride means in 2019. Take a look:> The famous Gay Street sign, representing a wide spectrum of gender expression. This Picture Is History: Trump 'Visits' North Korea and Reboots Diplomacy

Image
President Donald Trump’s visit to South Korea after the G-20 meeting in Osaka, Japan was supposed to be a quick check-in between friends. Trump would meet with South Korean President Moon Jae-in to talk about progress (or rather the lack thereof) in getting North Korea to denuclearize as well as celebrate a new trade agreement Washington and Seoul recently closed.  Trump, however, wanted something special to happen on this trip. And with a spontaneous tweet asking North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to stop by the DMZ and say “hello,” the president set things in motion for one of the most historic images the world has seen in the 21st century.Shortly after receiving a briefing from U.S. commanders along the fortified North-South border as he peered over the horizon at an observation post—something previous American presidents have done for decades—Trump became the first to step across the line into North Korea. Kim Jong-un was swept with emotion, seemingly overwhelmed by the momen...

Buttigieg Campaign Raises $24.8 Million in Second Quarter

Image
Pete Buttigieg, mayor of South Bend, Ind., and candidate in the Democratic presidential primary, raised $24.8 million over the last three months, his campaign announced on Monday — an impressive total that will likely cement the mayor's status as a serious contender for the nomination. The campaign said he has raised money from more than 400,000 individual donors since the campaign began, with an average contribution of $47.42.“This fundraising report shows that Pete’s message is resonating with Americans, and it’s proof that we are building an organization that can compete,” Mike Schmuhl, Buttigieg’s campaign manager, said in an email to supporters announcing the haul. The second-quarter total, which came from more than 294,000 donors, will likely give Buttigieg the ability to establish a sprawling campaign infrastructure similar to those set up by his more established opponents, such as Senator Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) and former vice president Joe Biden. While his opponents have no...

North Korea hails Trump-Kim meeting at DMZ as 'historic' and 'amazing'

Image
North Korea on Monday described Sunday's meeting between its leader Kim Jong-un and US President Donald Trump in the demilitarised zone (DMZ) as "historic" and "amazing". The two leaders agreed to "resume and push forward productive dialogues for making a new breakthrough in the denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula", the official Korean Central News Agency said. After a Twitter invitation by the US president on Saturday, the two men met a day later in the strip of land that has divided the peninsula for 66 years since the end of the Korean War, when their countries and their allies fought each other to a standstill. Mr Kim and Mr Trump shook hands over the concrete blocks dividing North and South before the US president walked a few paces into Pyongyang's territory - the first American leader ever to set foot on North Korean soil. "The top leaders of the DPRK and the US exchanging historic handshakes at Panmunjom" was an "amazing...
