Russia orders daily truce for evacuations from Syria's eastern Ghouta

Image
By Angus McDowall and Jack Stubbs BEIRUT/MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia said on Monday it would establish an evacuation corridor and implement a five-hour daily truce to allow people to leave Syria's eastern Ghouta, after a U.N. Security Council resolution demanding a 30-day ceasefire across the entire country. It appeared to make no mention, however, of allowing relief supplies to enter the territory, where 400,000 people are living under siege and bombardment. Over the past week, Syria's army and its allies have subjected the rebel-held enclave near Damascus to one of the heaviest bombardments of the seven-year war, killing hundreds. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines http://ift.tt/2EVz7Xq via Latest News

Qualcomm open to further takeover talks if Broadcom boosts price

Qualcomm said Monday it was open to further talks with computer chipmaking rival Broadcom if the Singapore-based firm is willing to raise the price of its hostile bid. The California-based mobile chip giant released a letter to Broadcom saying that a meeting earlier this month had addressed some of Qualcomm's concerns but that the two sides remained in disagreement on price. Last week, Broadcom reduced its offer to $79 a share, which would still be the largest-ever deal in the tech sector if completed at an estimated value of nearly $117 billion. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines http://ift.tt/2GLJQUK via Latest News

Former Florida School Resource Officer Defends Response To Parkland Shooting

DiRuzzo III, Peterson’s attorney, wrote in the statement. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines http://ift.tt/2sUnONs via Latest News

China punters bet on 'Emperor' Xi after term-limit news

Image
Superstitious Chinese investors rushed to buy stock in companies with "emperor" in their names Monday following the latest power boost for President Xi Jinping, who has been likened to a modern-day sovereign. The millions of mom-and-pop investors who dominate trade in Chinese securities often do so more on superstition or perceived portent in corporate names rather than fundamentals, and they appear to have leapt into action again on Monday. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines http://ift.tt/2F3n25N via Latest News
