Rare deer-like species photographed for first time in wild

Image
A tiny deer-like species not seen by scientists for nearly 30 years has been photographed in a forest in southern Vietnam, a conservation group said Tuesday. Images of the silver-backed chevrotain, commonly called the Vietnamese mouse deer, were captured in the wild by trap cameras, Global Wildlife Conservation said. Discovering that it is, indeed, still out there, is the first step in ensuring we don't lose it again, and we're moving quickly now to figure out how best to protect it," said An Nguyen, a conservation scientist at the Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research, a partner of GWC in the project. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://ift.tt/34Rasj2 via Latest News

Republicans complained they can't question 'guy who started it all.' Democrat says Trump is 'welcome' to testify.

Reps. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Peter Welch (D-Vt.) would both love to question the person who "started" the impeachment inquiry into President Trump. Welch just has someone different in mind.During the first public impeachment hearing Wednesday, Jordan complained that the anonymous whistleblower whose complaint about Trump's Ukraine phone call led to the House's official inquiry won't testify before Congress. Republicans including President Trump have been demanding this testimony, but House Intelligence Committee Chair Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) has said the whistleblower "has a right under laws championed by this committee to remain anonymous and to be protected from harm" and that this testimony would be "redundant and unnecessary," Vox reports. "There is one witness that they won't bring in front of us, they won't bring in front of the American people," Jordan said Wednesday. "That's the guy who started it all: the whi...

McConnell suggests he will not cut short impeachment trial

Image
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) suggested Wednesday that the Senate would not cut short an impeachment trial. “The rules of impeachment are very clear when it comes to the trial,” the GOP leader said when asked whether he’d support dismissing the trial out of hand. With many GOP senators facing difficult re-election races, McConnell warned his colleagues on Wednesday against making motions during the impeachment trial that could divide the party, according to people briefed on the meeting. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://ift.tt/2CFkqbc via Latest News
