Venezuela's Guaido Doesn't Rule Out U.S. Military Action

Image
Guaido, who is the National Assembly president and is recognized as the country’s legitimate leader by President Donald Trump and about 50 other countries, suggested he expected many more defectors from the military, along with Maduro’s resignation, after the opposition leader led a failed uprising this week. Instead of unilateral U.S. intervention, Guaido said such an operation would have to be accompanied by Venezuelan forces, without offering further details. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://yhoo.it/2VKQWUy via Latest News

Guaidó and advisers were 'too impatient' to oust Maduro, says man who led coup against Chávez

Image
Juan Guaidó and his advisers were “perhaps too impatient” in their keenness to force out Nicolas Maduro, according to the only man to have ever ousted the Chavista rulers of Venezuela. Pedro Carmona, now 77, toppled Hugo Chávez in a 2002 uprising whose anniversary was marked across Venezuela last month. He was sworn in as interim leader inside the Miraflores presidential palace and ruled the country for 48 hours, before supporters in the military rallied round Chávez and restored him to power. Mr Carmona, in his first ever interview with a British newspaper, said that the uprising launched on Tuesday was disappointing, risky, and should have been better planned. Five people have been killed in a week of protests, yet Mr Maduro has held on, despite this being Mr Guaidó's most serious push to oust him since declaring himself the constitutionally-legitimate interim president on January 23. “It’s hard to opine from outside,” said Mr Carmona, who has lived in exile in Bogota since his f...

NASA fits 265,000 galaxies into a single ‘Hubble Legacy Field’ image

Image
Astronomers have assembled the most all-encompassing image of space ever created. It puts together 16 years of data captured from the Hubble Space Telescope, according to a statement from NASA. All together, the composite is made up of nearly 7,500 individual exposures. Dubbed the "Hubble Legacy Field," this wide view image shows around 265,000 galaxies. These galaxies go back 13.3 billion years to 500 million years after the big bang, showcasing how they have changed over time. This latest Hubble mosaic consists of around 30 times as many galaxies as previous deep fields did. For example, the eXtreme Deep Field (XDF) which was put together in 2012 and is included in the Hubble Legacy Field, contains 5,500 galaxies."The faintest and farthest galaxies are just one ten-billionth the brightness of what the human eye can see," NASA said in its statement.SEE ALSO: Feast your eyes on this spectacular Hubble photo of a spiral galaxyThe findings from 31 different Hubble progr...

Trump Says Don't Do It as Mueller Testimony Tentatively Set

The president’s comment, in a pair of Twitter postings on Sunday, came hours after a Democratic member of the House Judiciary Committee said that a “tentative date” of May 15 had been set for testimony by the former FBI director to discuss his investigation into the 2016 election. Democrats have been eager for Mueller to testify at least since last month, when his report on Russian election interference and Trump’s subsequent actions to squelch the investigation became public. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://yhoo.it/2ZZxHWA via Latest News

Plane Crash in Moscow: At Least 40 Dead After Russian Aeroflot Jet’s Fiery Crash Landing

Image
Viktor Marchukaites/AFP/GettyAt least 40 people were killed Sunday when a Russian plane made a fiery crash landing at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport, according to Russian officials. The Russian Aeroflot carrier plane had reportedly departed from Moscow, en route to the northern city of Murmansk. But video shows the plane quickly returning at about 7:30 p.m. local time, skidding across the Moscow runway with the back half engulfed in flames and billowing thick clouds of black smoke. It’s not yet clear why the fire started. The Associated Press notes: some local reports say that the plane caught fire before turning back; others claim that the crash landing could have ignited the plane’s engines. The airport backs the latter claims, saying the hard emergency landing sparked the blaze and that the plane turned back due to other technical problems. The plane was reportedly carrying 73 passengers and 5 crew members. Elena Markovskaya, a spokeswoman for Russia’s Investigative Committee, said e...

'I will never hesitate' to fly in a 737 MAX, Warren Buffett declares

Image
Billionaire Warren Buffett, one of the world's most influential businessmen, said Saturday that he would not hesitate to fly in a Boeing 737 Max airplane, despite the grounding of the planes after two fatal crashes. "I will never hesitate even for a second to fly on a 737 MAX," he said in response to a question from AFP on the sidelines of the annual shareholder meeting of his Berkshire Hathaway empire in Omaha. While Buffett, the world's third-richest man, owns stakes in several of the most prestigious American companies -- from Coca-Cola to JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs to Apple and, recently, Amazon -- he holds no shares in Boeing, though he has invested in airlines. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://yhoo.it/2H0RL22 via Latest News

Venezuelan army helicopter crashes near Caracas, killing seven

A Venezuelan military helicopter crashed close to Caracas on Saturday morning, killing all seven people on board, the Defense Ministry said in a statement. The helicopter was to fly from Caracas, the capital, to the west-central state of Cojedes when it "went to ground," the Defense Ministry said, adding that authorities were investigating the cause of the crash. President Nicolas Maduro was in Cojedes on Saturday to watch a series of army drills, which, in televised speeches, he said demonstrated Venezuela's military readiness against what he called the threat posed by the United States. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://yhoo.it/2GXvger via Latest News

Redmi Note 7 flies to space, takes photos, and returns without a scratch

Image
We've seen plenty of unusual durability tests of the Redmi Note 7, including cutting fruits like a ninja on the screen and being stomped by people. To prove the ultimate quality of build, Redmi actually sent a unit in space, the phone took pictures at 31,000m altitude, before falling to the ground without any major damage. Plenty of enthusiasts and amateur weathermen have sent GoPros and other tech in space with a weather balloon, but this is the first time a Xiaomi mobile device went to the stratosphere of our planet. The Redmi Note 7 even took photos, that later were posted on... from GSMArena.com - Latest articles http://bit.ly/2VhF0dv via IFTTT

Week 18 in review: OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro dominate, Pixel 3a and 3a XL coming

Image
Like the week prior, this one was dominated by the incoming OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro. The pair is due on May 14 and OnePlus is constantly posting teasers to hype up its arrival. Among these teasers were a few camera samples released from an early review unit and then we got an official teaser from OnePlus' Twitter account showing a bird captured from an ultra-wide, regular and telephoto lenese. We saw a printed ad for the OnePlus 7 Pro in the New York Times, too, teasing no bezel and no notch and hinting at the pop-up selfie camera. Weekly poll: Do you use dark themes?

Image
This week's poll was actually suggested to us by one of our readers. Dark themes are all the rage these days, claiming to conserve battery power and to protect the screen, but are they as popular with users as with software developers? Dark vs. Light on OLED There are proper arguments on both sides - darker themes do save power on OLED panels so going all black will help stretch your battery that little bit longer. There is also the subjective matter of aesthetics - whether you like the side bezels to blend in and if you prefer to read white text on a black background.
