Democrats split over resolution condemning anti-Semitism aimed at newcomer Ilhan Omar

Image
A furious row over anti-Semitism erupted in the Democratic Party on Wednesday as its leadership attempted to pass a resolution seen as condemning language used by one of its own members. Senior Democrats wanted a statement to be adopted by the House of Representatives condemning "the dangerous consequences of perpetuating anti-Semitic stereotypes". The resolution was viewed as a direct rebuke of Ilhan Omar, a newly elected Democrat congresswoman who had compared support for Israel to "allegiance to a foreign country". However there was a heated backlash from fellow Democrats who said Ms Omar, who is on the Left of the party, was being unfairly singled out by the leadership. The dispute has echoes of the dispute over anti-Semitism raging in the Labour Party in Britain, which has seen MPs split on the severity of the problem and how to tackle it under Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership. House Republican lays into Democrats' corruption probe of Trump

Image
The House Judiciary Committee's ranking Republican, Doug Collins, said the panel's investigation into obstruction of justice, corruption and abuse of power under Trump surpasses the scope of legitimate legislative inquiry and violates the U.S. Constitution. Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler launched the investigation on Monday by sending document requests to 81 government agencies, business entities and individuals associated with Trump, including his adult sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump. "Your requests are part of a concerted effort to target and punish associates of the president," Collins wrote to Nadler in a March 7 letter released by the Republican's office. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://ift.tt/2IYTYj4 via Latest News

Huawei Sues U.S. Over Equipment Ban, Escalating Legal Clash

Image
The lawsuit is aimed at a U.S. statute that blocks government agencies from using equipment from Huawei and its domestic rival ZTE Corp., according to a complaint filed in federal court in Texas. Huawei argues in the suit that it’s unconstitutional to single out a person or a group for penalty without a fair trial. The action signals a more aggressive response from the company toward its U.S. accusers, who have been trying to persuade other countries to ban Huawei gear from crucial fifth-generation communications networks. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://ift.tt/2tUYlRC via Latest News
