Fourteen French nationals accused of fighting for the Islamic State group were transferred to Iraq by US-backed forces squeezing the jihadists' final Syrian bastion, an Iraqi government source said Monday. The Syrian Democratic Forces have taken hundreds of foreign IS fighters into custody as they bear down on the jihadists' shrinking pocket of territory in eastern Syria. Since Thursday, they have transferred 280 Iraqi nationals accused of fighting alongside IS to Iraqi authorities. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://ift.tt/2IAbQ3j via Latest News

Thrill seekers: Hanoi tours offer visitors taste of summit action

Image
When Lee Parry heard that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and US President Donald Trump would meet in Hanoi, he knew he wanted to be part of the action and soon booked a trip. The trip to the Vietnamese capital is not exactly a daring one, but a chance for visitors to be part of the flurry surrounding Trump and Kim's second meeting this week. "It's a lot better than seeing it on Twitter or Facebook," said Parry, 36, a British student living in China. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://ift.tt/2U8fEuf via Latest News

Weak investment climate main 5G risk, not security fears: Ericsson

Image
Europe risks falling behind other regions in rolling out 5G mobile services because of onerous regulation and weak investment rather than any security concerns about Chinese equipment, Ericsson CEO Borje Ekholm said on Monday. High spectrum fees, regulatory uncertainty and a lack of investment were more pressing concerns, Ekholm said, alluding to calls by the United States to ban Chinese network vendors on national security grounds. "The debate here often becomes: it's the lack of technology for operators, that's what slowed down Europe. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://ift.tt/2EbtCER via Latest News

Weekend beauty highlights from Milan Fashion Week

Image
Milan Fashion Week put a sophisticated spin on catwalk beauty over the weekend, mixing quirky details with tried-and-tested classics for Fall/Winter 2019. At Giorgio Armani the hair was twisted and pinned in rope-like coils to the head, for a child-like, textured look that was exacerbated by spiky, doll-like lashes and rosy pink lips. At Missoni a peach-hued blusher was dabbed high on the cheekbones for a flushed look that was teamed with a nude, glossy lip and -- in supermodel Bella Hadid's case -- shiny, tidy bangs. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://ift.tt/2IA3wAL via Latest News

Pompeo Says ‘More Sanctions to Be Had’ to Pressure Venezuela

The steps outlined by Pence may include forms of economic or diplomatic pressure by the U.S., a second official said. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo also said earlier on CNN’s “State of the Union” that more sanctions are possible on Venezuela without offering details on what measures the U.S. may be planning, as regional leaders prepare to meet in Colombia. Pence’s announcement will come more than a month after the U.S. recognized Juan Guaido as Venezuela’s interim president. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://ift.tt/2XkTZAR via Latest News

New England Patriots owner, Robert Kraft charged with soliciting prostitution

Image
Robert Kraft, one of the most powerful figures in US sport, has been charged with two counts of soliciting prostitution. Mr Kraft, the owner of Super Bowl winners New England Patriots, is one of 25 people facing similar charges following a lengthy investigation into human trafficking and money laundering across Florida. The 77-year-old sports magnate could, in theory, face a year in jail if convicted. However, announcing the misdemeanour charges, Palm Beach County state attorney Dave Aronberg said a custodial sentence was unlikely for a first time offender. Those convicted also face a mandatory $5,000 fine and being required to perform 100 hours of community service and attend a class on the dangers of prostitution and human trafficking. A spokesman for Mr Kraft said that he categorically denies the charges. Japan's Okinawa votes against controversial US base move

Image
Voters on the Japanese island of Okinawa have rejected the relocation of a controversial US military base, according to official results from a non-binding referendum Sunday. Some 72 percent voted against the move with 19 percent in favour from a 52 percent turnout, the local government said. Opponents of the relocation -- some 434,000 -- had turned out in sufficient numbers to meet the threshold required for Okinawa Governor Denny Tamaki to "respect" the result of the symbolic referendum, it said. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://ift.tt/2SYB4NO via Latest News
