Palestinian killed in Gaza border fence blast: Israeli army

Image
By Nidal al-Mughrabi GAZA (Reuters) - A Palestinian was killed on Monday when a part of Israel's fortifications on the Gaza border blew up as he tampered with it, the Israeli military said. The 24-year-old man's death in northern Gaza followed a more than two-month surge in tensions along the frontier, where Israeli troops have killed at least 125 Palestinians during sometimes violent mass demonstrations. Residents said the man killed in the blast was among a group of Palestinians who approached the border fence, drawing fire from soldiers on the other side. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://ift.tt/2ykwzmH via Latest News

A Texas sheriff’s deputy has been accused of sexually assaulting an undocumented immigrant’s child, and blackmailing the mother with potential deportation to keep her quiet about the attacks. Jose Nunez, 47, is being held on charges of “super aggravated sexual assault” after the mother sought help at a fire department for her 4-year-old child, who had reportedly been crying out in pain. “The details of the case are quite frankly heartbreaking, disturbing, disgusting and infuriating all at the same time,” Javier Salazar, the Bexar County Sheriff, said during a press conference announcing the charges and circumstances. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://ift.tt/2JMfnvz via Latest News

Israel strikes at launchers of burning kites from Gaza Strip

Image
The Israeli military said its aircraft struck a vehicle early Sunday belonging to someone who sent burning kites into Israel from Gaza. No one was injured in the strike, but it marks an escalation in Israel's response to a phenomenon that has wreaked havoc on agriculture in southern Israel in recent weeks. Burning kites set fields ablaze in more than a dozen locations on a hot, windy, dry Saturday. Gazans began flying kites with burning rags attached to them during the mass protests against the Israeli and Egyptian blockade of the territory. Israeli troops have fired on the protesters, killing more than 100 since the weekly demonstrations began in March. The Israeli military says militants have used the protests as cover to carry out attacks and to try to breach the border fence. The Islamic militant group Hamas, which rules Gaza, has led the protests. Israel says it holds Hamas responsible for the fires. While Israel has been mostly successful in thwarting militant infiltration at...
