Samsung Galaxy Buds vs Apple AirPods

Image
Last month, when Samsung launched its flagship Galaxy S10 smartphone, it also launched the Galaxy Buds, the company's latest truly wireless Bluetooth earbuds. We have been using them for a few weeks now and you can find our review here. The Galaxy Buds aren't the first set of truly wireless earbuds from Samsung, as the company has been making them as far back as 2016 with the original Samsung Gear IconX. However, even though Samsung was one of the first to market, it was really Apple that popularized this style of product. Not to mention, Apple's implementation was also much better in... from GSMArena.com - Latest articles https://ift.tt/2WchLhh via IFTTT

Samsung Galaxy S10e in for review

Image
Say hello to the Samsung Galaxy S10e - the value flagship in Samsung's S10 lineup and quite possibly the best compact phone period. We're on our way to deliver a detailed review of the Galaxy S10e early next week, but before that let's look at this little gem and share some early impressions. The first thing to stand out about the Samsung Galaxy S10e is its size. Unless you're using an iPhone 8 or a Pixel 3 the Galaxy S10e will strike you as minuscule the moment you get your hands on it. A big part of that comes from its impressively light 150g weight - whereas the iPhone XS is... from GSMArena.com - Latest articles https://ift.tt/2ucSsiV via IFTTT

Weekly poll: are periscope cameras the future of smartphones?

Image
Multi-camera phones are the norm now, but the modules they use have a traditional design, one optimized for size. This limits the focal length - which, true to its name, is a measure of the distance from the lens to the sensor - meaning that telephoto cams rarely go above 2x zoom (and we're yet to see one go above 3x). A new breed of telephoto cameras has emerged at this year's MWC (we've seen prototypes earlier, but no mass market products). Yes, we're talking about the periscope type cameras, which are called that because light is reflected 90°. This guides light along the width of... from GSMArena.com - Latest articles https://ift.tt/2HJxf8v via IFTTT

Week 11 in review: all about the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro

Image
This week we saw a big jump in Huawei P30-related stories, which is to be expected as we draw closer to their official launch on March 26. By far the biggest story was Huawei's ad campaign to tease the P30 Pro's 5x zoom camera, in which the company misleadingly used DSLR-taken photos. Now, Huawei didn't say these photos were taken with a P30 Pro but it was strongly implied. Anyway, no bad press eh? The P30 Pro made appearances on both AnTuTu and Geekbench, flexing its Kirin 980 muscle. We saw some camera samples actually captured with a Huawei P30 Pro and we got a good look at the... from GSMArena.com - Latest articles https://ift.tt/2HqOrjB via IFTTT

Weekly poll results: the Samsung Galaxy S10+ is the best-loved among its siblings

Image
Last week's poll shows that the Galaxy S10+ is the one to have from Samsung Galaxy S10's LTE trio. It took in nearly 40% of the vote, leaving its two siblings in its rear view mirror. People appreciated the Dynamic AMOLED display and the addition of an ultra-wide angle camera, the battery life was rated highly too. Some weren't happy with the in-display fingerprint reader, but the major complaint against the S10 phones was that they didn't feel particularly innovative. The Galaxy S10, despite being fairly similar, only secured 22% of the vote - that's 2 percentage points lower than the... from GSMArena.com - Latest articles https://ift.tt/2HrZo4h via IFTTT

Ethiopian jet asked permission to climb then vanished: source

Ethiopian Airlines flight 302, which crashed killing 157 people, had an unusually high speed after take-off before the plane reported problems and asked permission to climb quickly, said a source who has listened to the air traffic control recording. A voice from the cockpit of the Boeing 737 MAX asked to climb to 14,000 feet above sea level - 6,400 feet above the airport - but vanished from radar at 10,800 feet after starting a right turn home due to what the pilot described as a flight control problem, the source said on condition of anonymity because the recording is part of an ongoing investigation. Shortly before the maneuver, the air traffic controller had been in communication with other aircraft when the voice from Ethiopian Airlines flight 302 interrupted, saying "break, break" - signaling that other non-urgent communications should cease. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://ift.tt/2Ob8x1Y via Latest News

Putin to mark five years of annexation in Crimea

Image
Russian President Vladimir Putin will travel to Crimea on Monday to mark the fifth anniversary of Moscow's annexation of the Black Sea peninsula from Ukraine, condemned by the West but celebrated by most Russians. A Kremlin statement on Sunday said Putin would visit the peninsula and its largest city Sevastopol to attend celebrations marking five years since Crimea "rejoined" Russia. On March 18, 2014, Putin signed a treaty with representatives from Crimea to make it part of Russia, two days after a referendum that was not recognised by the international community. from Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines https://ift.tt/2OaKvDW via Latest News

Erin go bragh! St Patrick's Day is nearly here, with events in honour of the patron saint of Ireland set to take place across the globe this weekend. Recognised annually since the 1700s, the people of Ireland celebrate their heritage and culture on St Patrick's Day, with the day growing as a commercial occasion rather than a religious event in recent years. Here is everything you need to know about St Patrick's Day, from the patron saint himself to Irish recipes and worldwide celebrations. When is St Patrick's Day 2019? St Patrick's Day, the patron saint day of Ireland, falls each year on March 17. The first parade in name of the saint took place in Boston in 1737, followed by the first "official" parade

Unrest returns to Paris with worst yellow vest violence in weeks

Image
Anti-government protesters hurled rocks and paving slabs at police, looted boutiques, smashed up a luxury restaurant on Paris’s famed Champs-Elysées and set a bank on fire on Saturday. A mother and her baby trapped on the second floor of the building, as flames surged up from the bank branch on the ground floor, were rescued by firefighters. The bank offices were gutted and 11 people were slightly injured, including two police officers. Smoke and tear gas shrouded the Champs-Elysées and at least 109 people were arrested in the worst outbreak of violence on the fringes of a “yellow vest” demonstration in Paris for several weeks. President Emmanuel Macron has cut short his skiing holiday to return to Paris to chair an emergency meeting over what the authorities are describing as "intolerable violence and damage".   Christophe Castaner, the interior minister, tweeted that those who set the bank on fire “are neither demonstrators nor troublemakers: they are killers.”  Grinning “y
